About Me!
Salam alaikum! I am Tahira Abbas, an incoming secondary teacher from Michigan. I grew up in Dearborn, Michigan and have been in this state ever since. I love that we get to experience all four of the seasons here; there's always something new to look forward to! Currently, I'm in Grand Rapids, a beautiful city in the west side of the state. I moved here with my husband and am looking forward to where life will take us next!
I graduated high school and received my IB Diploma from the International Academy in Troy, Michigan. I started working towards my career with a double major in Biology and Psychology at the University of Michigan - Dearborn. From there, I narrowed my focus and completed my Teacher Certification. Currently, I'm working on completing my Masters of Education in Instruction and Curriculum at Grand Valley State University. While I was in school, I tutored elementary and middle school students along with volunteering at the local Sunday school in my area. I also had the chance to teach a set of wonderful preschool students as my first official teaching job. It was a great experience that suddenly ended with a quarantine, but it gave me the opportunity to teach my preschoolers online, which was a huge challenge to take on, but we had so much fun and it left all of us with many great memories. I completed my student teaching at Michigan's #1 ranked public school, City High/Middle school; an IB school, which has equipped me the tools I need to continue to grow into a flexible, organized and empathetic teacher. Working with both 8th graders and 12th graders has exposed me to a variety of students in this age bracket and their different ways of learning.
My favorite color is aqua blue; I always end up unintentionally buying everything in this color. I like to spend my free time chatting the night away with friends and family. I also like to paint and try out new, crafty projects all the time. My most recent hobby had been embroidery!
